Description
An infrared (IR) spectrophotometer is an analytical instrument that measures the interaction of infrared radiation with a sample to identify the chemical compounds present. It works by detecting specific frequencies of IR radiation that are absorbed by the sample's molecular bonds, causing them to vibrate at higher energy levels. The resulting absorption pattern, or spectrum, acts as a unique molecular “fingerprint” for identifying the substance.
