Description
A Triple Beam Balance is a mechanical laboratory instrument used for precise measurement of mass, typically up to 610 grams with an accuracy of 0.1 grams. It features three parallel beams, each with a sliding rider that represents different weight increments—typically one beam for 100-gram increments, another for 10 grams, and a third for 1-gram or 0.1-gram increments. The user places the object on a centrally located pan, adjusts the riders to achieve balance, and reads the total mass value from the sum on all three beams. Triple beam balances are common in classrooms and labs for weighing chemicals, specimens, and small objects, valued for their durability, reliability, and the ability to function without electricity.
