Description

The Transistor Characteristics Apparatus (CB PNP) is an instrument designed for studying and plotting the input, output, and current transfer characteristics of PNP transistors in a common base (CB) configuration. It typically includes:

Two regulated DC power supplies, commonly providing outputs of 0-1 V and 0-10 V with appropriate current ratings (e.g., 150 mA).

Four analog meters for precise measurement of voltage and current at critical points in the transistor circuit.

Connection terminals such as 4mm sockets for secure attachment of leads and the transistor under test.

Instruction manual and connecting leads for ease of use in laboratory settings.

The apparatus enables the observation of input characteristics by varying the emitter current with base-emitter voltage at a constant collector-base voltage; output characteristics by varying collector current with collector-base voltage at constant emitter current; and current transfer characteristics by plotting collector current versus emitter current at constant collector-base voltage.

In the common base (CB) transistor configuration, the base terminal serves as the common terminal for both input and output. The CB configuration is characterized by low input impedance and high output impedance. It typically exhibits low current gain (α less than 1), making it suitable for certain specific applications like high-frequency amplification despite poor overall power gain when compared to common emitter or collector configurations.
