Working Principle

Forward Bias: The Zener diode behaves like a regular p-n junction diode, conducting when the forward voltage exceeds its knee (typically 0.7 V for silicon).

Reverse Bias: When the reverse voltage surpasses the Zener voltage (breakdown voltage), the diode starts conducting in reverse without damage. This creates a region of nearly constant voltage across the diode, regardless of further increases in current—ideal for voltage regulation applications.
